If you’re getting your news about Egypt from the mainstream media and the Obama Administration, you’re probably feeling sorry for the “peaceful demonstrators” of the Muslim Brotherhood—but there’s a different side to the story; one that the Egyptian anti-Islamist activists are eager to show.

“Egypt is feeling severe bitterness towards some Western media coverage that is biased to the Muslim Brotherhood and ignores shedding light on violent and terror acts that are perpetrated by the group … ,” the Egyptian State Information Service said in an official statement on August 17.

The statement details facts that the Western media is not covering, such as the “peaceful” protestors’ damaging of public and private property including the burning and destruction of churches, storming of and damage to police stations and blocking of roads.

Foreign extremists from the Palestinian territories, Syria and Pakistan have joined the Egyptian militants in committing these acts of violence.

“[V]ehicles have entered Ramsis square, in Cairo downtown, carrying masked elements carrying the black flag of Al-Qaeda along with automatic weapons amid celebrations by the Muslim Brotherhood elements who were present in the square,” the State Information Service said.

The defection of a Muslim Brotherhood official named Amr Amara substantiates the accounts of the Egyptian government and the anti-Islamist activists. He was a strong Brotherhood supporter until he saw the group provoke the violence that caught the world’s attention.

“[W]e realized that the group [MB] was trading with the blood of its youth and innocent demonstrators, which pushed us to leave the sit-in on Tuesday August 6 and found this coalition [which] aims to pull the group off the wrong track which might endanger its own existence and extinguish it forever,” he says.

The tone of Egyptian social media outlets and activists, including some specifically translated for the Clarion Project, reflects this frustration. You won’t blame them after watching these videos.

1. Brotherhood Supporters Vow Jihad and to “Burn” Christians

On July 5, the Clarion Project brought attention to a startling video showing supporters of ousted Egyptian President Morsi threatening jihad and suicide bombings and vowing to kill their Muslim enemies and to “burn” Christians.

2. Brotherhood Protest Features Children Declaring Willingness to Die

On August 1, the Clarion Project reported on photos and videos showing the Brotherhood demonstrators using children as props for martyrdom. It was no secret that the Egyptian military crackdown was coming. The Brotherhood deliberately put children in harm’s way for the Islamist cause.

3Brotherhood Protestors Firing on Security Forces

The following video has gone viral with over 720,000 hits. It shows the “peaceful” Brotherhood demonstrators with guns and shooting at the security forces.

4Brotherhood Supporters Attacking Churches, Security Forces, Government Building

The Maspero Youth Union put together this compilation of footage showing the Brotherhood supporters attacking the security forces, churches and government buildings. The organization writes, “We ascertain that the sit-ins of the Muslim Brotherhood were not by any means peaceful. On the contrary, they were armed and threatened state stability and sovereignty.”

5. Brotherhood Crimes:” A Short Documentary

This 7-minute video was made in English to show Americans the truth about the crackdown and why so many Egyptians support it.

6. Coffins Stored with Arms at Brotherhood Protest Camps

The coffins were used as props to honor the “martyrs” killed by the Egyptian government. What was contained inside the coffins shows how eager the Brotherhood was to have more “martyrs.”

7. Egyptians Cheer As Brotherhood Leaders Are Arrested

This video was taken at the scene of an arrest of a leading Brotherhood figure. Look at the crowd of bystanders celebrating. The Egyptian who provided us with the link emphasized that the police had to fire a round into the air in order to protect the Brotherhood leader because the crowd would probably have killed him.

In another incident, a Brotherhood sniper fired from the minaret of a mosque. Again, when he was arrested, the crowd celebrated.

8. Crackdown on Brotherhood Compared to Bin Laden Raid

This video declares that the Egyptian government is fighting terrorism. It includes clips of a Brotherhood preacher saying that Morsi will resurrect the Caliphate, a Morsi supporter declaring that they will kill all the anti-Brotherhood protestors and Brotherhood supporters setting churches on fire and destroying crosses.

The makers of the video criticize President Obama’s condemnation of the Egyptian government’s crackdown by comparing it to the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. It points out that the Egyptian security forces gave the protestors plenty of time to leave without fear of prosecution.

9. Brotherhood Frames the Egyptian Military

Raymond Ibrahim deserves credit for finding this video. As he explains, it first appears that the soldiers inside the armored vehicle killed a Brotherhood demonstrator for no reason. This video shows that he was actually shot by a fellow protestor. He has written another article on this tactic.

10. Hamas Publicly Pledges Allegiance to the Muslim Brotherhood

On January 30, the Clarion Project reported on an online video that was provided by an Egyptian source. It shows the Hamas leadership publicly declaring its allegiance to the Muslim Brotherhood and, specifically, to its jihad.

Conclusions

The Western media needs to be taken to task. The violence in Egypt -- and the Brotherhood’s manipulation of it -- is going to continue. Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi recently declared that the Egyptian government is guilty of a greater massacre than even Israel.

Think about that. The top Brotherhood spiritual guide claims that the Egyptian government has shed more Muslim blood than Israel — its number one enemy. And we know the type of violence that Qaradawi and the Brotherhood/Hamas support against Israel.

Comparing the Egyptian government’s alleged sins to those of Israel is nothing less than a declaration of war—or, in Islamic terminology, jihad.

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are standing by the Egyptian government because they know the threat that the Brotherhood poses.

By standing in the Brotherhood’s corner against the Egyptian government, the Obama Administration is rejecting the advice of those who best know the Brotherhood.

The Egyptian government deserves to be taken to task for any use of excessive force and, especially, any persecution of non-Islamist, democratic elements, as the New York Times reports is starting to happen.

There are two sides at fault for the bloodshed, but the Islamists deserve the bulk of the blame for it.

If the U.S. is to stand up for human rights, it must expose the Brotherhood’s propaganda instead of broadcasting it.
