The United Muslim Masjid is part of the United Muslim Movement (UMM), founded by music producer and songwriter Kenny Gamble, now known as Luqman Abdul-Haqq. It says it is “dedicated to the full implementation of the Qur’an and the Sunnah (tradition) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).”
Although Gamble is a Sunni, he was originally a follower of the Nation of Islam, a group he still collaborates with. Gamble is a member of the governing body of the Muslim Alliance in North America.
Gamble and the UMM are linked to the Jawala Scouts, a project started by the Sankore Institute of Islamic-African Studies International in 2005. In 2010, it was reported that the Jawala Scouts was registered with the same address as UMM and Gamble was listed as the e-mail contact for the organization.
