Sun, June 24, 2012 UK Muslim Couple on Trial for Rape, Human Trafficking

A trial is now underway involving a  Muslim couple in the U.K, who are accused of trafficking a deaf, 10-year old Pakistani orphan into the country, raping her, beating her and forcing her to live and work in their cellar where she was locked up for a decade.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, reported details that could not have been known if the abuse had not happened.

Ilyas Ashar, now 83, and his wife Tallat, 66, are said to have severely abused the girl, treating her worse than a slave. At night she was locked in the cellar and forced to sleep on a concrete floor. By day, she was a domestic servant for themselves as well as other family members and friends.

The girl was forced to cook, clean, do the laundry and ironing and clean their cars. She also was forced to work in the cellar for hours packing football shirts, clothing and mobile phone covers. She was never given pay for her work and was regularly, slapped, beaten and raped.

 The couple resided in Salford. They are accused of  two counts of human trafficking into the UK for exploitation and a single count of false imprisonment. Ilyas is also accused of 12 counts of rape.Tallat is accused of one count of sexual assault and unlawful wounding and the pair and their daughter Faaiza, 44, are accused of benefit fraud.
