In a document recently discovered online by the Center for Security Policy (CSP) and translated from the original Arabic into English by a colleague at Translating Jihad, the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA) declares that the only legitimate law according to Islam is sharia and urges American Muslims to nurture hostility towards U.S. law. The document, which was written in 2007 and presented at a 2008 Houston imams conference, makes clear that the AMJA’s ultimate goal, as described by scholar of Islam Andrew Bostom, “is nothing less than the eventual subversion of the American legal system” to Islamic law (sharia).

The Qur’an says that “Never should a Believer kill a Believer; but if it so happens by mistake, compensation is due. (Q 4:92). Under Islamic law (shariah), the definition of “slander” is very different than in the U.S. legal system.
