Rapist: 'Women Are No More Than a Lollipop Dropped to the Ground'

An 18 year-old Muslim, who groomed a 13-year old girl on Facebook before meeting her and having sex with her, was spared a prison sentence in Britain’s courts by telling psychologists that he had been taught in his Islamic school that “women are no more worthy than a lollipop that has been dropped on the ground.”
Adil Rashid, the accused, also testified that he was unaware that it is a crime in Britain to engage in sex with a 13-year old girl because his education left him ignorant of British law.
Such a crime in Britian normally mandates a four to seven-year prison sentence.
The judge in the case, Michael Stokes, who gave Rashid a suspended sentence said, “Although chronologically 18, it is quite clear from the reports that you are very naive and immature when it comes to sexual matters.”
He further said that because Rashid was “passive” and “lacking assertiveness,” sending him to jail might cause him “more damage than good.”
The case come to light when the girl told one of her friends what had happened and the friend informed a teacher about the matter.
Rashid began communicating with the girl on Facebook and later through text messages and telephone conversations. They met in Nottinghan and later booked a hotel room. The sex was consensual and Rashid came prepared with a condom, according to testimony by the girl, indicating that Rashid may not as been as naïve as the judge presumed.
The judge acknowledged to Rashid that he may have not known that having sex with the girl was illegal (the court heard that he was later informed of this by a family member). “I accept this was a case where the girl was quite willing to have sexual activity with you. But the law is there to protect young girls, even though they are perfectly happy to engage in sexual activity, “ he said.
The school could not be named for legal reasons.
