The Struggle Against Female Genital Mutilation in Mauritania
A bill to prohibit Female Genital Mutilation in Mauritania is stuck between the Ministry for W0men's Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. Meanwhile, one in ten girls in Mauritania (located in western Africa) die every year through this horrific procedure which is carried out in extremely unsanitary conditions on 88 perecent of girls in rural areas and 65 percent of girls in cities.
